Spreading Smiles: Pick-Me-Up Bags for Binghamton’s Everyday Heroes
With the help of my close friends and Residential Life co-workers, we created over 300 pick-me-up bags — each filled with a personalized and decorated handwritten thank-you note (complete with stamps and stickers), a fresh-cut flower peeking out of the translucent suitcase, and a few sweet treats like Hershey’s Kisses, Starbursts, and Dum Dums. Closing each bag with a heart-shaped twisty tie, we distributed it to all the dining hall staff members across the four main halls (Applachinin Dining Hall, College in the Woods, Chenango Champlain Collegiate Center, and Hinman Dining Hall), maintenance & janitorial staff in the Mountainview community, and other staff members working at on-campus cafes and restauraunts. I wanted to give thanks to so many staff members who often don't get appreciated for the work they do day in and day out for Binghamton University's campus.

The Food Pantry @ SB HOME Free Clinic
Our idea is to start a food pantry in partnership with SB HOME, a free student-run clinic. Currently, the only food pantry that the University centrally operates is located at Renaissance School of Medicine (RSOM) Hospital, while the SB HOME clinic itself is half an hour away. Many patients at the clinic are underserved and experience food insecurity, yet the distance to the existing pantry creates significant barriers due to transportation costs and time constraints. To alleviate this burden, our aim is to establish a new pantry at the SB HOME clinic, bringing food access directly to the patients who need it most, eliminating barriers to care.
